Steve M. Tietjen, Ed.D.

County Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to the Merced County Office of Education website. Our site has been developed to make it easy to find and share useful and up-to-date information for parents, educators, students, and community members. I hope you will take time to browse through our web pages to learn about our programs and services that support education.

Family and children are a high priority in Merced County. Our committed educators and supporting staff work hard each day to address the needs of more than 70,000 PreK-12 students and to prepare them to be career and college ready. There is a clear understanding that we are preparing students for jobs that do not exist in technologies that have not been invented yet. In order to prepare students with 21st century skills, students must be proficient in the “Three Rs” and “Four Cs” in order to enter the workforce of the future. Proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic has to be fused with teaching students to think critically, be creative, collaborate, and communicate effectively.

I am honored to have the privilege of serving as your county superintendent that is dedicated to providing a world-class education where every student succeeds.
